Chinese Agreed to Pay $2.1M for a Dinner with Warren Buffett

July 6, 2008

Six months ago, I wasn’t aware of who Warren Buffet was.  Perhaps I was too focused on Bill Gates (most people are) that Mr. Buffet was put into the sidelines.  Not for long.  Forbes Magazine named him the ‘World’s Richest Man’ last March 2008.  Second in the ranking is Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim, while Microsoft’s Bill Gates got the 3rd spot.  Yeah!  Bill Gates is not the richest man anymore.

Just recently, Associated Press (AP) has this story “Buffett amazed at investor who will pay $2.1M to dine with him.”

The amount a Chinese investment fund manager agreed to pay for the chance to have lunch with billionaire Warren Buffett surprised even Buffett.

The name of this Chinese is Zhao Danyang.  A fund manager of Pureheart China Growth Investment Fund, a Hong Kong-based company.  It was said the Mr. Zhao won the auction of dining with the world’s richest with a bid of $2,110,100, which according to eBay personnels sets a new world record for the most expensive charity auction on their site.  Take note, 3 hours is the usual time Mr.Buffett spends with auction winners.

Now I’m wondering if the lunch is really worth that much money.  I mean, would he get the most out of it.  Most of the strategies of the ‘Oracle of Ohama’ is alvailable on books and on the internet.  Even if you extract that much info from that lunch, I dont see them making that much money in a short time, but perhaps I’m wrong.  Maybe the person is thinking that Mr. Buffett is indeed getting old, so why not meet him even if I spend too much, and besides this is for charity. hehe!  Nice!  This is similar to the first space tourist who paid so much amount just to be part of the space adventure only that you don’t get to ride a rocketship.
