The People’s Pope

Pope John Paul II.

Compared to his predecessors truly,he’s one of a kind
History will go down and recall
That never had we had a pope
Who was so much loved by people of all ages.

His breathtaking charisma and unparalleled nobility
Have crossed boundaries of race, color and creed

Which united us all unprecedentedly
In his twenty six years of grandeur papacy
Using one universal language
The language of love which is peace.

Coming from a Slavic country once ruled by an iron fist
Where sickle and hammer became the banner
Of this atheistic communist state for years to come

Has now become the cradle of his beloved name.

He fought despotism,injustice and oppression
With unceasing appeals,diplomacies and prayers
Which he has carried and kept all throughout his life
Even up to his last breathe as pope

The cross of the risen Christ embedded in his heart
Aflame with the motto:TOTUS TUUS - “totally yours”
Consecrating the whole world in the name of Jesus Christ.

One of the important legacies he left behind
Are his numerous trips during his reign
Where he has touched people of all walks of life

By reaching out and giving everyone a fatherly embrace

Bringing the Church closer to men
By bringing God to all humanity.

He is a catalyst of change to every society
Igniting the youth most especially
In their hunger and thirst for purpose and direction
By entrusting them to be torch-bearers of their faith

For them to keep it alive, glowing and spreading
Where darkness is at its peak of destroying
The Universal Church of God here on earth.

The latter part of his life was saddled with health problems
Parkinson being the most serious and evident
Has not dwindled his faith in his obligation

To keep God in everyone’s heart
In preparation for His Son’s second coming.

The tiny window at his apartment became the television screen of the world
A scene of a man watched more than any movie in human history
Like a story in every book
There’s a beginning and an end

His end was his death
But a death that will never end
The life of a humble yet very outspoken man

Who happens to be John Paul the Second.

This is a poem by my friend Ryan.  I personally like this poem not only because it featured the remarkable life of the former Pope, but also because of its simplicity and accurateness.  Thanks for sharing this one!  I hope you could comment on my friend’s work by dropping a comment.  Thanks!
